Three Warning Signs Your Wardrobe Isn’t Working for You

A closet full of hangars and clothes squeezed in tightly

Do You Have a Full Closet and Nothing to Wear?

Did you know that only 20% of our closet gets worn about 80% of the time? Most of our wardrobe doesn’t get touched, though, and that makes for an unworkable and unrewarding closet.

Imagine that your hairdryer or vacuum cleaner only works 20% of the time? You’d get rid of it, right? So, it’s time for a closet edit if you see these 3 warning signs:

Warning Number One – Your Closet Lacks a Strong Foundation

Your wardrobe should be built on a strong foundation of key pieces that you can wear over and over because they are great basics that mix and match with many things. These are the backbone of your wardrobe, and they will define your style.

These key pieces will be different for everyone depending on your lifestyle and your style. They might include stylish jackets, great fitting tees, basic trousers or good-looking jeans. It will depend on your personal style.

Warning Number Two – Your Closet is Full of Things that Don’t Flatter You

Everything in your closet should be right for your figure and body shape, should fit you well, and should be in the colors that flatter your skin tone, hair and eyes.

Many of us buy things that we admire on other people, but they aren’t right for us, or we buy what our mother, husband or friend likes. Understanding what styles work best on you, and knowing what colors make you glow, and which ones make you look tired or look older will help you make better decisions when you’re shopping so you have a closet full of things you love to wear.

Absolutely don’t keep things that don’t fit you. If you’re hanging on to things that are no longer your size, then your wardrobe isn’t working for you.

Warning Number Three – You Have a Closet Filled with Pieces That Don’t Represent Your Personal Style

Your wardrobe tells a story about you. Have the pieces you invest in be a representation of your style. Style personality is something that you develop, and you can be a combination of different styles – that’s what makes your personal style unique. Style is not about copying anyone else or following fashion trends. It’s dressing in a style that truly represents you. Knowing your personal style helps you create that foundation for dressing with confidence. It should align perfectly with who you are and the story you want to project to the world.
