Mother of the Bride and Groom Dresses

Mother of the Bride and Groom Dresses

There is so much excitement around the news that your daughter or son just got engaged, and so many plans to make for the upcoming wedding.  All of a sudden, after musing about the venue, the date, what theme, which colors, and should it be big or small, you think, “What am I going to wear?”

Dressing mothers for this very special occasion is one of Wildflower’s specialties, so we’d like to share a few tips and suggestions.

The bride Is Absolutely The Star

The bride should have the most fabulous dress.  The mother of the bride (MOB) is the next in line for fabulous.  Your dress should make you look and feel beautiful.  The mother of the groom (MOG) needs a special dress, too.  You just shouldn’t outshine the bride or the MOB.  The MOB and MOG are both distinctions of honor so you don’t want to look like a guest – your dresses needs to be special.  The mother of the groom traditionally gives the mother of the bride first pick of color and whether it will be short or long.

The more prepared you are before you begin shopping, the more enjoyable the journey will be. This is the information you need to have before you begin trying on dresses:

  • The date of the wedding
  • The location/venue
  • Time of day of the wedding
  • What colors the bride approves of
  • If there are any style considerations

Other considerations are:

  • Have in mind a budget and factor cost of alterations into your budget
  • Allow plenty of time to special order – it may take months
  • Allow time for alterations when considering how much time you need for ordering
  • Bring heels
  • Wear or bring proper undergarments

Shopping with friends is fun; however, everyone will have a different opinion.  It is advisable to shop by yourself or with one person who you need and trust.  Too many opinions just becomes confusing.

Remember, you must love the dress, and feel beautifulForget about obsessing that you will only wear it once.  The wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and remember that the cake, invites, reception and flowers are only a once also!  Enjoy the experience and be generous with yourself.  Once the decision is made, you get to enjoy the rest of the fun moments that go into planning this wonderful day.
